This Vision Shifter is a vision education tool used for relaxation of the visual system. Using a Vision Shifter is one of the easiest ways to increase the natural reflexive eye movements that are necessary for normal eyesight.
In order to see clearly, the normal eye makes effortless quick shifts, called saccades, many times a second. But staring, squinting, and other habits of visual strain can create tension in the eye muscles, slowing down these reflexive eye movements and lowering vision.
Practicing with a Vision Shifter can help to improve vision by releasing these habits of visual strain, reducing eye muscle tension and reestablishing the normal effortless shifting of the eyes.
I make each Vision Shifter individually by hand, using repurposed new and gently used bamboo consumer products and water-based paints and stains, with the aim of being more environmentally friendly.
I make two versions, wide and narrow. This wide full-size version is approximately 17″ long and 6″ wide and weighs about 10 oz.
